Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan called for the regulation of the tourism industry and the formation of relevant laws to this effect.
He addressed the participants at the Pakistan Tourism Summit in Islamabad. Representatives from different institutions, as well as foreign travel bloggers, were present there.
The PM remarked that Pakistan’s tourism potential was unmatched. He also directed the concerned officials to develop significant laws in order to promote and develop the tourism industry of Pakistan.
Following to This, The Gilgit-Baltistan government has decided to set up a tourism Police force based on the models followed in Thailand and Malaysia.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanaullah Abbasi stated his views on the matter. The tourism police division consist of over 600 members, including: the IGP, one SSP, 75 sub-inspectors, 105 head constables, 315 male constables, 70 female constables, and 70 official staff. IGP Abbasi said that initiative was being taken to ensure security of tourists. Only English speaking skilled candidates would be hired in the force.
He said that the main office of the tourism force would be established in Gilgit, while sub-offices will be set up in Hunza, Nagar, Skardu, Diamer, Ghizer, and Ghanche districts.
